Smartwords - Internet Keywords YOU Choose!

Smartwords provides a scalable UI to Netscape 6.1's Bookmarks Keyword String substitution feature, a little known but powerful tool for quickly accessing parameterized documents.

Netscape 6.1 allows users to create "keywords" for Bookmarked web pages, this keyword can be entered into the location field in the browser and the page associated with it will be loaded.

If the URL of the bookmark associated with the keyword contains a "%s" embedded in it, any text entered into the location field AFTER the keyword will be substituted into the URL before it is loaded.

This allows you to parameterize access to sites, e.g. you could create a keyword bookmark for a dictionary site like m-w.com or dictionary.com, and then type into the urlbar:

dict ambiguous

SmartWords provides a mouse-driven UI for this accessing feature. Eventually the goal is to allow you to edit your keyword bookmarks and create new ones easily.
