evil pendant - greenstone tiki pendant - old woman to say some maori cry (picture from art gallery or similar resource)
SFX - timber, rain forest
activation - tiki makes woodcutter evil with red eyes returns to house to murder family
documentation with tiki supercedes book of death. contains identification and unbinding spell.
<current day, party house setup>
Night - character goes to conveniently located outdoor bathroom and is infected (finds tiki in grass by porch?) Returns to living room with other students, looks blank, possessed. collapses, others notice.
Book of the dead - maori studies student suggests other students use incantation to help tiki affected friend, but he has to go do something (eat food? maybe maori studies student can be the student who likes to eat a lot) They accidentally say the wrong word just as MSS returns - he realises what they've said is wrong... tells them they've screwed up, but possessed friend wakes up.
Power goes out.
Student goes out to generator shed. Woodcutter inside. as student approaches door, shed rattles and door begins to shudder. Student runs back to house. See door burst open and silhouetted figure stumble out, and stagger towards house from different camera angles in driving rain.
Power still out, student reaches house, gets inside, relates story of generator shed to other students. They are scared. Hear the creaking of the door knob and footsteps across the floor. Strobe of lightning catches tip of axe disappearing into bedroom.
Lightning shows woodcutter to audience where cast can't see him / Lightning illuminates character face with woodcutter in background.
It is still dark therefore one student says he will get his torch from his bag in bedroom. Shot of the woodcutter behind person looking through pack for torch, maybe low camera shot upwards across face. W/C behind.
"The Creaking" = the coming of the woodcutter. (Find maori translation of the creaking) - The Creaking - Maori spirit/fairy tale. Person killed.
Screaming and violence. Another student rushes in, camera follows student to show empty room. Camera cuts back to see murdered student perched hand-less on bed in niche. Lights come back on. Student turns and sees student dead. Screams. Everybody runs into room.
MSS links back to chant mistake or woodcutter story from house owner (flashback to grandfather telling story of woodcutter)
Characters:

Fridge - eating. gateway to hell. - not plugged in. person goes to eat at fridge and discovers gateway to helvinator. runs back to friends. macho student goes back out to check out fridge and finds nothing. shot back of student illuminated by fridge. woodcutter appears. murdered. chopped up and put into fridge. Other students run in, find pool of blood leading up to fridge. Open and find body parts.
Three left. All try to escape in car, but it won't start. One is indignant and says "If car won't start, I'm going on foot." disappears. Others try and dissuade but fail
Others retreat to bathroom and formulate p[lan to lure wc.. which backfires. escape out window, MSS first - other nextbut headless corpse falls on him. Locks woodcutter in bathroom and pours gasoline around house. lights. burn cardboard model.
Ending sequence on road. MSS drives away. Shot of MSS through windshield as driving. Figure pops up from back seat. Cut to black. "Screams from Tha Old Plantation" or similar. Credits roll.
Open Issues:
Plan? - detail required. What happened to student that escaped on foot? (Could come back and fall victim to trap set by other two students trying to kill WC, the distress of this causes one student to die while MSS escapes, OR, student could go in house and be burned alive.. maybe appear on road as MSS escapes).
Lots of continuity/believability issues.
